Post No. 050: For Who I Truly Am, Part 6 — My God Is With Me

(Image from Vuible.com)

My God Is With Me

My God is with me...

...I am with me...

...My God is me.

-Paul Whiting

My Writing About Where To Find God, Version No. 1: If you are looking for God, go inside of yourself. That is where God is. –Paul Whiting (September 19th, 2023)

My Writing About Where To Find God, Version No. 2: If you are looking for God, go inside of yourself. That's where God is. For, God is the entire Universe which, I believe, is like a Super Computer! Therefore, the reason that God is inside of you is due to the fact that God Is All Of Us in zillions of different forms—such as plants, insects and animals, which includes humans. And that is why God is contained within each one of our consciousnesses, which is how, and why, prayer works. So, pray to your God! For, God is always listening, since God is always there. –Paul Whiting (written September 19th, 2023 and revised March 16th, 2024)

My Poetic Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: "My God is with me...I am with me...My God is me."

I wrote this poem before I moved to Portland, Oregon from Salt Lake City, Utah. And, although I do not remember the particular circumstances that inspired this poem, I do remember feeling really close to God.

And this poem was also published on my "Three Dark Horses" and "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blogs (please see the hyperlinks below for the blogs), since I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message I am trying to convey through "Three Dark Horses" and "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer." Plus, I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message I am trying to convey through my new "The Oneness Of God" spiritual practice!

This poem was written in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Post No. 049: For Who I Truly Am, Part 5 — Wings Unfurled

(Image from Change Your Limits)

Wings Unfurled

Now
I am ready
to be lit as a flame;

Now
I am a wick
waxed for the match.

Now
I am ready
to be deeply immersed;

Now
I am wood
porous for the river.

Now
I am ready
to be planted anew;

Now
I am a seed
germinating for the soil.

Now
I am ready
to soar off the cliff;

Now
I am wings
unfurled for the thermal.

My Poetic Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: I wrote this poem before I moved to Portland, Oregon from Salt Lake City, Utah. And, although I do not remember the particular circumstances that inspired this poem, I do remember feeling ready to heal, because I was ready to face whatever I had to face in order to heal.

And this poem was also published on my "Three Dark Horses" and "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blogs (please see the hyperlinks below for the blogs), since I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message I am trying to convey through "Three Dark Horses" and "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer." Post No. 048: For Who I Truly Am, Part 4 — Grieving For The Loss Of Who I Am Not

(Image from photo.net)

Grieving For The Loss
Of Who I Am Not

I cried for a reason that mystifies me!
I cried because I was comparing
myself to someone else.
And I also realized how much pain I still have
waiting to be vocalized for this very reason.
It is the same pain I have been
running from my entire life.
It is the pain that surrounded me when
I was young, in my silent desperation to
not to be found out for who I truly was—
for the fear that I would not belong...

...and for the fear that I would not fit in!

The funny thing is, I never did fit in
—even when I was trying to.
And the more I tried to fit in, the worse it
got—the more I pushed others away, because
they could feel I was acting out of fear.
And, like angry guards at the gate, they
attacked with their cruel words and their
thoughtless actions. And, thus, I ran away
from my fear and further into my pain...

...until I stopped running!

And then, it finally dawned on me that I
had been—literally—running away from
myself! I know that may sound simplistic;
but, at the time, I thought that I was running
toward what I should be, rather than
running away from what I was.
And I am realizing that is why I cried!
There is a part of me who still
grieves for not being like the others,
for knowing that I don’t belong and
for knowing that I don’t fit in...

...because I am someone entirely different!

Post No. 047: For Who I Truly Am, Part 3 — An Instrument Of Peace

(Image from Sacred Spirit Journeys)

An Instrument Of Peace

How can I explain to you
what I am capable of?
How should I convey to you
the potential that I hold?

There are no words to tell
the depth that my feelings reach.
There are no images to show
the height that my desire knows!

I have living within me
a passion to understand the
mystery of—the very essence
of—every metaphor of life.

My soul is calling for me
to follow this path, which I
have been searching for—and
now that it is laying before me:

I must enter the dreamscape;
I must drink deeply at the well;
I must give my fear to the fire;
I must journey on as a shaman.

I have not stumbled upon this—
I have struggled to get here.
I have traveled into my pain
and grieved what I found there!

Thus, these words do not flow
from some babbling brook;
they are carried on the waves
of a crater-formed lake.

So, I am choosing my next step,
since it is not chosen for me!
I am becoming who I am;
I am knowing myself into being.

I am creating my existence
as I fully wish it to be—and
I am making myself into
An Instrument Of Peace.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

My Poetic Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: I wrote this poem in preparation for telling my family why I was moving to Portland, Oregon!

You see, I was living at my parent's house, at the age of thirty two (which means that it was the year 1999), and doing odd jobs for them around the house in order to make money, since I could not find a fulfilling job in Utah. And, although I had no job lined up, my plan was to live in Portland (with a friend from Salt Lake City who had moved there also) and get a temporary job until I could find a permanent job.

And I wrote this poem (along with another poem that I wrote titled, "North Toward The Ways Of The Earth," which is published on this blog) in anticipation of my family asking me why I was planning to move; that's why the first stanza of this poem reads: "How can I explain to you what I am capable of? How should I convey to you the potential that I hold?"

So, I invited my family over for dinner at my parent's house to tell them that I was moving and the funny thing is that nobody asked me why I was moving!

By the way, I consider this poem as my "signature poem." You see, I have printed on my business cards the last lines from the poem:

"I am choosing my next step, since it is not chosen for me! I am becoming who I am. I am knowing myself into being. I am creating my existence as I fully wish it to be—and I am making myself into An Instrument Of Peace."

Plus, I use this poem for the 'About Me' sections of my personal profiles on various websites in order to describe myself.

046: For Who I Truly Am, Part 2 — North Toward The Ways Of The Earth

(Image from American Travel Center)

North Toward The Ways Of The Earth

You have asked me how, how can
I just up and leave like this without
knowing precisely why—or, for that
matter, how or where—I am going?

I understand the concern behind
your question and will answer you
as best as I can, with all of my skills
for the metaphor at my disposal.

Being here does not bring me joy.
I am not being fully who I am. For,
I simply cannot be who I am, where
I am. And this can no longer be!

I have chosen to listen to what
I am supposed to be in this life,
for far too long, and have lived
a 'non-life' because of my choice.

And, yet, this detour was a necessary
step in the journey to who I am.
This choice was a mistake—but
it was the correct mistake.

And this choice was also painful.
I have felt totally inadequate and
unworthy—as the person I am—
for as long as I can remember.

So, I chose to not be myself and
to be what others chose for me to be;
I chose to not do what I desired, but
to do what others desired of me.

Because of this, I have experienced
a constant fear of not being acceptable
enough, of not being lovable enough,
of—quite simply—not being enough.

When the pain became unbearable,
I chose differently. I chose to face my
fears head on. Thus, I chose to surrender
to my fear and finally won that conflict.

And, with every surrender, I experienced
a little death—and then I experienced a
little birth! For, my fear had died and my
joy was born. So, here I am yet again...

...Once more, I am choosing to go with
my soul and, therefore, to leave my fear
behind kicking and screaming demanding
to have its way—determined to be heard!

But I will not heed its cries. I have
listened too much, too often and for
too long—and have known only grief
from caving in to the demands of fear.

Fear is—in fact—a cave! It is dark and
cold and damp. It promises safety, but
you cannot see where you're going—
then you trip—and fall deeper into it.

Thus, I am here making this choice
while the voices of fear are crying out,
“What will you do?” “Where will
you go?” “How will you survive?”

Sometimes, these voices come from
others—and sometimes they come from
myself—but still they come! And, still,
I will not let them all the way in...

For, all I have to go on is the pull of my
soul north, toward the ways of the Earth.
She is The Goddess and I totally trust Her!
And I must go so that I can be closer to Her...

Post No. 045: For Who I Truly Am, Part 1 — To Those Who Have Gone Before Me (My Ancestors)

(Image from Business Mirror)

To Those Who Have Gone
Before Me (My Ancestors)

Come to me in my hour of need,
those who have gone before me.

I am here—yet I am not—because
I don’t really know where I am!

I feel so very lost in this world and
am profoundly longing to be found.

So come rushing in, my friends, and
whisper to me which way to run!

I need to know the road that I should
take to find my way as you have done.

My Poetic Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: I wrote this poem during one of my many periods of self-questioning when I was confused about how to proceed with my life. And I was praying to "To Those Who Have Gone Before Me," or my ancestors, if you will, in order to gain insight from those older souls!

And this poem was also published on my "Three Dark Horses" and "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blogs (please see the hyperlinks below for the blogs), since I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message I am trying to convey through "Three Dark Horses" and "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer."
