(Image from Variety)

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now: 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline: "If you’re thinking about suicide, are worried about a friend or loved one, or would like emotional support, the Lifeline network is available 24/7 across the United States." Dial 988

Robin M. Williams: July 21, 1951 – Aug. 11, 2014

The Passing Away Of
Robin Williams
Is No Joke!

Addiction Can Affect Anyone...
Depression Can Affect Anyone...
Hopelesness Can Affect Anyone...
Mental Illness Can Affect Anyone...
Asking For Help Can Affect Anyone...

-Paul Whiting

My Poetic Notes:

The reason that I wrote this poem can be summed up with the following statement: "The Passing Of Robin Williams Is No Joke! Addiction Can Affect Anyone... Depression Can Affect Anyone... Hopelesness Can Affect Anyone... Mental Illness Can Affect Anyone... Asking For Help Can Affect Anyone..." So, if you are feeling suicidal (like I have been many times in my life) then please ask for help!

And this poem was only published on my "Small All White in the Forest" blog.

This poem was written in Portland, Oregon.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now: 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline (please see the hyperlink below for the website):

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Talk To Someone Now

If you’re thinking about suicide, are worried about a friend or loved one, or would like emotional support, the Lifeline network is available 24/7 across the United States.

What Happens When I Call The Lifeline?

First, you’ll hear a message telling you that you’ve reached the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

We’ll play you a little hold music while we connect you.

A skilled, trained crisis worker who works at the Lifeline network crisis center closest to you will answer the phone.

This person will listen to you, understand how your problem is affecting you, provide support, and share any resources that may be helpful.

Remember, your call is confidential and free.

Should I Call The Lifeline?

No matter what problems you’re dealing with, whether or not you’re thinking about suicide, if you need someone to lean on for emotional support, call the Lifeline.

People call to talk about lots of things: substance abuse, economic worries, relationships, sexual identity, getting over abuse, depression, mental and physical illness, and loneliness, to name a few.

And this poem was also published on my "Poet, Artist and Philosopher," "Three Dark Horses" and "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer" blogs (please see the hyperlinks below for the blogs), since I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message I am trying to convey through "Poet, Artist and Philosopher," "Three Dark Horses" and "Paul Whiting — A Creative Writer." Plus, I feel that the message in this poem applies to the message I am trying to convey through my new "The Oneness Of God" spiritual practice!

"James S. Brady American Hero: 1940 – 2014" from Brady: United Against Gun Violence:

"Jim Brady was an American hero who dedicated his life to creating a safer nation for us all. Because of Jim’s hard work and the policy that bears his name—the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act—an estimated 2 million gun sales to criminals, domestic abusers and other dangerous people have been blocked. As a result, countless lives have been saved.

He inspired millions with his strength, courage, perseverance, and legendary sense of humor. To celebrate Jim’s life and legacy we are collecting stories and comments to share with his family, friends, and loved ones..."

"Poetry is using the fewest words possible in order to describe all that is possible to describe." –Paul Whiting [June 1st, 2022]

My poems that are Haiku in their style—within which one stanza is composed of three lines, where each line has words containing five syllables, seven syllables and five syllables, respectively—are a lot more like Senryū poems in that the topic of these poems is typically about people, rather than the topic of these poems being about nature, as is usually the case in classic Haiku poems. And that is why I call these types of poems "Haiku-style." –Paul Whiting [September 19th, 2023]
